A Pearl Perspective

If you’ve read my blog before, you likely know that my parents are Pearl status with Disney Cruise Line, meaning they have sailed with DCL more than 25 times! Their most recent DCL adventure was aboard the Disney Magic. I haven’t sailed aboard the Magic (yet), so naturally, I was excited to hear their opinion on the recently re-imagined ship! As an older and smaller member of DCL’s fleet, the Magic is often overlooked, but maybe this is the perfect ship for you! Let’s dive in!

My parents agreed that one of the highlights of dining for them was Rapunzel’s Royal Table. They enjoyed the themed atmosphere, the food, and the show! I don’t want to give too much away, but if you or your child loves Rapunzel, this experience will definitely bring the magic (pun intended)! Other rotational dining options include Animator’s Palate (a favorite of mine) and Lumiere’s, themed after Beauty and the Beast.

They also enjoyed Palo, as always, and I definitely agree that everyone should try Palo at least once!

Like all other DCL ships, the Magic is equipped with family pools, splash pads, a waterslide, and an adult only area, including an adult only pool. My mom is not a water person, but there were plenty of shaded areas for her to enjoy while my dad enjoyed a swim! As always, the pools get crowded quickly, so my advice is to wait until a port day to enjoy the most pool time!

So if my mom doesn’t love water, what does DCL offer for her!? Besides trivia, music, shopping, and character meet and greets, she loves the shows! Disney is set apart in the cruisline entertainment industry by their award winning, Broadway caliber shows! My mom and I both love all the shows, but her favorite show aboard the Magic is Tangled: the musical! And you will not find this show on any other ship! Other shows include Believe and Twice Charmed.

New themed areas for the Magic include the Soul Cat Lounge themed after Soul, perfect for jazz lovers! The ship abounds with night life options, including various lounges! And of course, it wouldn’t be Disney Cruise Line without the fabulous kids clubs and nursery!

The cruise industry is booming, and I am often asked if a smaller, older ship is “worth it.” I think that totally depends! I truly believe Disney has something to offer everyone! Many people choose inteneraries over ships, but the ships are a vital component of your vacation! For the person who enjoys smaller crowds with a more relaxing atmosphere, the Magic is a great option!
